Take Selfies With Japanese Geisha!

This just came in my mailbox and could be a first time ever event in Japan, but soon anyone (including professional weaboos and usually unwelcome gaijin and fellow Japanese commoners in Tokyo), can actually meet and take selfies with real otherworldly Japanese Geisha:

Via peatix.com

"This is a one of a kind opportunity to play games at a dinner party with Geisha and watch an authentic Geisha dance! (You can also take pictures with the Geisha and there will be people who can communicate in Japanese and English as well.)"

"Geisha are well-known to the world as a symbol of Japanese culture. They are skilled entertainers who bring joy to banquets through traditional Japanese performance arts such as song, dance and "shamisen" (long three stringed Japanese guitar played with a pick). However, even in Japan, Japanese people hardly have an opportunity to meet with real Geisha. Therefore, together with the principal of Bando Private School (a kimono school managed by Geisha in active service), we have planned a party where everyone can casually communicate with Geisha in Asakusa."

Needless to say, tickets are limited for this very unusual event and will probably go very quickly. More information is available here.

Two Japanese Films at Cannes Film Festival

Shield of Straw 藁の楯 Wara no Tate

Via Asahi Shinbun May 19, 2013

Of the 20 films vying for this year's coveted Palme d'Or prize at the Cannes Film Festival, two of them are popular Japanese full-length features. One is about a very difficult family situation and the other is an exciting cop thriller by Takashi Miike.

In Shield of Straw / "Wara no Tate" 藁の楯 leading man Tatsuya Fujiwara plays a cold-blooded killer named Kiyomaru Kunihide who murders the granddaughter of a very powerful political figure (Tsutomu Yamazaki). A few weeks after the murder, Kiyomaru realizes that the politician has offered one billion yen (approximately $9.7 million dollars) to anyone who kills him.

Fearing for his life, he turns himself into the Fukuoka Police and then is to be transferred to Tokyo by five elite security police. But along the way they keep running into groups of citizens and other police who want to get the reward and get revenge! Also one of the security police starts to question the morality of protecting such a vile criminal. Below is the Japanese trailer, but you don't need to understand Japanese to enjoy this exciting preview:

A light favorite for this year's top prize, "Soshite Chichi Ni Naru (Like Father, Like Son)" stars Masaharu Fukuyama as the hard-working husband Ryota and his faithful wife Midori played by Machiko Ono.

Soshite Chichi Ni Naru (Like Father, Like Son)

Their idyllic family life is suddenly turned upside down when the hospital where their son was born admits that Keita was switched at birth and is not their biological son. The couple is then faced with a difficult "nature vs nurture" decision in either swapping the boy they have raised and loved for six years for their real biological son or keep him. Ryota and Midori then meet the couple, played by Yoko Maki and Lily Franky, who have raised their real son and the film unfolds into humor and humanity. A powerful soft family drama competing against many violent films including the above, "Soshite Chichi Ni Naru (Like Father, Like Son)" is director Kore-eda Hirokazu's fourth film to compete at Cannes.
"I wanted to create this total upheaval in the morality of the main character," Kore-eda told journalists. "I wanted to create a real shock in his mind."

Here is the official trailer with English subtitles:

The winners of the world's largest film festival will be announced on May 26th.

Japanese Girls "Soccer Ball Juggling" Videos

Japanese Girls Soccer Ball Juggling Videos

Apparently Japan's JLeague soccer association is getting somewhat desperate for more herbivorous men to actually "go outside" and at least pretend to become beer guzzling, teriyaki eating carnivorous soccer fans again. Why else would they have Konami produce three (3) videos of some cute Japanese girls engaged in "soccer ball juggling"??? Oh and some genius decided to add a miniature GoPro video camera inside the soccer ball in order to produce some cute and enticing close ups of the soccer girls' body parts (see above ninja shot).

Also Konami is running a Football All Stars 2013 Campaign that, among other things, will be giving away single tickets that will be good for 101 seats at some JLeague games!

Football All Stars 2013 Campaign

Yes that's right! Now all these grass eating men will be able to bring 100 of their best friends to a JLeague soccer game.

Rrriiiiiiiggghht.....

Obviously, someone forgot to mention that most modern-day Japanese herbivores actually don't have any friends.

Fukushima Housewife's Story of Nuclear Meltdown

Fukushima Housewife's Story of Nuclear Meltdown

Via Energy News January 23rd 2013

In a chilling testimony, the wife of a Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant worker, Takumi Takano, tells us about the meltdown, the hardships her family had to go through and the many Japanese government failures that followed. Knowing beforehand about the impending disaster, her husband evacuated their family from their Tomioka home just nine kilometers from the power plants on March 11, 2011. They all escaped to southerly Saitama Prefecture and then later on moved back to Koriyama, Fukushima.
"The day of the quake he told us right away that we should evacuate. My 80 y/o father lived close by. So we escaped together to the south. My husband said the wind was blowing north. He knew even before the government announced. When we were on the run he said the plant would melt down."
In this exclusive and very personal account of the Fukushima collapse, Takano blames the Japanese government for "lying to us from the get-go." Spoken in Japanese with English subtitles:

How Can Japanese Sumo Survive?

How Can Japanese Sumo Survive?

Via Next Media Animation TV December 27, 2012

For the past 10 years or so, professional Japanese Sumo wrestling has seen a steady decline in popularity as it has suffered from fixed matches, links to organized crime, bar room brawls in Roppongi, a marijuana scandal and illegal gambling on baseball etc. The failure to produce a Japanese superstar wrestler has also driven away many long-term fans as well.

So how can Japanese Sumo survive? Well, Taiwan's Next Media Animation TV has some funny ideas:

Flying Japanese Salarymen To The Rescue!

Flying Japanese Salarymen To The Rescue!

Japan is good at defying the law of gravity. You may recall the Natsumi Hayashi- internet's most attractive levitating lady
Yowayowa Camera Woman aka Natsumi Hayashi who first started out with Japanese cat photos and then become the internet's most attractive levitating lady!

Now Rocket News 24 has reported on some Flying Japanese Salarymen To The Rescue!

Flying Japanese Salarymen To The Rescue

Actually this is part of a new photo album entitled "Flying Has Changed My Life – Solaryman" by award-winnning photographer Yuki Aoyama on sale on December 12th for 1260 yen (US $15.33). About this latest collection, Aoyama said this:
After the Tohoku earthquake last year, I put my photography project on hold, but continued to upload photos of flying salarymen that I had already taken to Twitter and other Internet sites. My photos were reblogged and shared thousands of times and gained a lot of buzz all over the Internet. At the same time, Japan was facing hard times after the earthquake, its people at a standstill. I thought maybe if people saw my photos of energetic office workers, happily flying through the air, it would lift everyone’s spirits and inspire the people of Japan to persevere through a difficult time.

To me, this was just one of thousands of photographing projects I’ve taken on, but to everyone else, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity that would turn into a lasting memory. With that in mind, the workers I photographed earnestly tried their best while having their picture taken.

You can purchase this and other photo albums by Yuki Aoyama on his internet store. And be sure to see more of Aoyama's work on his official website.

Japanese Nuke Protesters vs Japanese Police

XXX Large Size

Here is a truly incredible photo of some Japanese nuclear protesters standing right up against the Japanese police. Notice how some of the protesters are sharing their umbrellas with the cops! Amazing.

Also today the independent parliamentary committee known as the Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission (FNAIIC) released a highly critical report which concluded that the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear disaster was “man-made” and the result of “collusion” between Japan’s regulatory bodies and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO). This report also "blames Japanese culture for the fundamental causes of the disaster" and comes at a time when it could further inflame the overall distrust of the government and significantly empower the anti-nuclear movement in Japan. On Sunday, the Ohi nuclear plant was switched back on against widespread anti-nuclear sentiment and protests that continue in Tokyo.

Just in time for the coming apocalypse, here is a somewhat frightening photo of a NSFL Japanese Zombie Face Eater Bento lunch box set. You know with a bento like this, no one will ever steal it from the office fridge. Usually, housewives in Japan make bento lunches for their salarymen husbands. And, clearly, this bento was made with a different kind of "love" in mind. Maybe necrophilia? O.o

NSFW Japanese Program Squeezes Out Breast Milk

New Japanese Program Squeezes Out Breast Milk

Via Rocket News 24 May 9, 2012

An oversexed and very talented Japanese internet geek named Kamutaro has just released a new NSFW, WTF, and Forever Alone computer program that allows anyone to squeeze out breast milk from anything.

On May 8, Ksmutaro uploaded the below NSFW video that demonstrates how his new breast milk program works. But, at first, he is frustrated when it doesn't work and he hits the monitor a few times. He then shows us two real steamed buns and writes in Japanese subtitles that he is "finally ready to squeeze out some milk." So he then squeezes the buns, but, of course, nothing happens.

Then at 0:55 of the video we see his fingers on the computer monitor making a squeezing motion. Somehow this interacts with the manga image and animated milk starts to spray out from the manga girl's breast. Then he shows us the computer setup and how he now can squeeze the steamed buns and on the monitor the animated milk gushes out of them. Later on in the video he explains:
“Background differencing allows the program to detect hand movements within the specified field. The amount and trajectory of milk is calculated using my own original formula.”

It’s after this that the video suddenly transforms from hilarious to call-the-cops creepy as Kamutaro violates the altered image of a premature female anime character: “Milk Mai’s school uniform! You can milk big breasts and small breasts! I removed her clothes, but there’s no nipple so this isn’t porn!”
You have to see this to believe it:

Note: This video is NSFW
